Chronic Pain
Living with chronic pain can be exhausting — physically, mentally, and emotionally. It can affect every aspect of life: sleep, mood, work, relationships, and the simple ability to enjoy day-to-day activities.
At Wild Heart Acupuncture, I recognise that chronic pain is complex and highly individual. It can arise from a past injury, illness, inflammation, nerve sensitivity, or sometimes without a clear cause. Over time, persistent pain can influence the nervous system, stress response, and overall wellbeing; creating a cycle that can be difficult to break.
Understanding Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is generally defined as pain lasting longer than three months. It might be localised — your neck, your back, a joint — or widespread, as with fibromyalgia. It can flare and settle unpredictably, often alongside fatigue, muscle tension, or disrupted sleep.
No two people experience pain the same way. Stress, past trauma, sleep quality, posture, and emotional health all shape how your body processes and holds onto pain. That's why I look at the whole person, not just the sore spot.

How acupuncture can help
Acupuncture involves the careful insertion of very fine needles at specific points on the body. It's one part of a considered, comprehensive approach to chronic painnot a stand-alone fix.
Research suggests acupuncture may influence the body's natural pain-modulating systems, including the nervous and circulatory systems. In practice, people often use it as part of a plan to support:
Reduced pain and muscle tension
Better stress management and a calmer nervous system
Improved sleep
A general sense of feeling more like themselves
Everyone responds differently, and I'll always be upfront with you about what to realistically expect. Acupuncture works well alongside your GP, physiotherapist, or specialist — it's not an either/or.
We'll start by talking. Properly. Not just where it hurts, but how it's affecting your sleep, your work, your mood, your ability to get through the day. From there, I'll build a treatment plan around your specific pattern.
A thorough consultation on your pain history, triggers, and lifestyle
Individualised acupuncture treatment
Optional complementary therapies, including moxibustion, cupping, gua sha.
Practical guidance on movement, posture, and daily habits.
