Nurture • Settle • Prepare

Pregnancy can be joyful, tiring, uncomfortable and overwhelming, sometimes all in the same day. Your body is changing fast, your mind is busy, and there’s often little space left to care for yourself.

At Wild Heart Acupuncture, I offer gentle, personalised acupuncture through each trimester. It’s a calm hour that’s just for you, alongside the care you receive from your midwife, GP or obstetrician.

How acupuncture may help in pregnancy

Acupuncture may help pregnant women with common pregnancy symptoms, including:

  • Back and pelvic pain, and other musculoskeletal aches

  • Nausea and morning sickness

  • Headaches

  • Stress, worry and trouble sleeping

Research suggests acupuncture can help relieve back and pelvic pain in pregnancy, and it may help with nausea and headaches.

Care through each trimester

First trimester. Early pregnancy can bring nausea, tiredness and anxious waiting, often before you’ve told anyone. Sessions focus on settling nausea where we can, supporting rest, and giving you a quiet space to land.

Second trimester. As your body grows, aches in your back, hips and pelvis can creep in. We focus on comfort, energy and keeping you feeling like yourself.

Third trimester. As birth gets closer, care focuses on comfort, rest and preparing your mind as well as your body. We’ll talk about how you’re feeling about birth, and what support you have around you.

Gentle, careful treatment

Pregnancy care at Wild Heart uses gentle techniques and pregnancy-appropriate points and positioning. Every treatment is adjusted to your stage of pregnancy and how you’re feeling on the day. As with any treatment, people respond differently, and I’ll talk you through what to expect before we begin.

If anything changes in your pregnancy, or you’re unsure about a symptom, please contact your midwife or doctor first.

How a visit unfolds

We’ll start by talking about how your pregnancy is going, your health history, and what’s on your mind. Then I’ll tailor a treatment to you, with practical tips you can use at home. You’ll be positioned comfortably with plenty of pillows, lying on your side if that suits you best.

Working alongside your pregnancy care team

My care sits alongside your midwife, GP or obstetric team, never in place of them. Please let them know you’re having acupuncture, and let me know about any changes in your care.

Common questions

When can I start acupuncture in pregnancy?
You can come at any stage. Some women start in the first trimester for nausea or tiredness; others come later for back and pelvic discomfort.

How often should I come?
It depends on what you need. We’ll agree on a plan together at your first visit, and I’ll be honest with you about what’s realistic.

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant after fertility treatment. Can I keep coming?
Yes. Many women continue their care with me into pregnancy. We’ll simply adjust your treatment for this new stage.

Can I claim this on private health?
Acupuncture may be claimable on private health insurance, depending on your extras cover. HICAPS is available in clinic.

You’re growing a whole new life. You deserve care too.
